The journey begins.
The time of waiting at home has passed. Waiting for babies, waiting for paperwork, waiting for visas. Waiting for emails and phone calls. Waiting for time to pass.
Now people and places await us on the other side of the world. Walls, roof, and floor are waiting. New friends are waiting. Challenges and difficulties are waiting. Excitement is waiting. Sadness is waiting. Laughter is waiting. Loneliness is waiting. Hope is waiting.
Bags are packed and ready......
Clothes and boxes, books and papers, medicines and sunscreen, and so many things which may be important. Or not.
The intangible things are the things which will be most needed. Humility. Flexibility. Patience. Tolerance. Energy. Imagination.
Do I have enough? I am sure not, but they are renewable resources so to speak.
You don't need a suitcase for them. Just space in your mind, ( which of course I do have lots of).
Move over thoughts, memories, ideas, I need more room to expand. Yes, I can do "flexible".
They say the mind once expanded can never return to it's former shape.
Or, it's perhaps just time to "stretch my edges" anyway. Either way, the process is inevitable. And about to commence!
One thing we do know. No winter for us this year. The question is, "How hot is it today?"
as for questions....
"One who asks commits no sins"
as for age.....
"Old men sit in the shade because they planted a tree many years before"
(that's us in the future)
as for being flexible....
"Where flies are eaten, eat them." (Ugandan proverbs)
We'll do our best to walk in Ugandan shoes.
